The EPA believes that companies can improve the environmental and health profile of their products by using ingredients that are inherently less toxic, less environmentally persistent, less bio-accumulative, and that degrade to substances with similar desirable characteristics when compared to ingredients in some conventional formulations.*
Jelmar's formulas of CLR and CLR Bathroom & Kitchen Cleaner met the requirements outlined in the DfE's review process and offer improved health and environmental characteristics. CLR and CLR Bathroom& Kitchen Cleaner contain no inorganic phosphates, hazardous solvents, or environmentally harmful surfactants. Instead, they use a proprietary blend of ingredients, which exhibit more positive environmental and  human health characteristics than conventional cleaning formulations.
In addition, CLR and CLR Bathroom and Kitchen Cleaner only use surfactants that biodegrade readily to non-polluting substances, which helps relieve stress on the environment, especially threats to aquatic life.

CLR and CLR Bathroom & Kitchen Cleaner are also formulated to help ensure a safer workplace. Users of these products benefit from ingredients that include no components that pose serious hazards.
