Jelmar has been a growing, evolving company since it’s inception in 1949. The company began when Manny Gutterman established a national sales representative organization, Manny Gutterman & Associates, Inc. This new company was dedicated to selling all types of proprietary products to chain drug, variety, hardware and department stores and also established an ethical and reliable channel for "close-out" merchandise.
The success that Manny Gutterman & Associates achieved gave Manny the direction and determination to create his own brand name products. To market and manufacture these products, he created a new company, Jelmar. Jelmar’s first product manufactured and distributed by the Gutterman family was Tarn-X®. Tarn-X® (circa 1969) is one of the few products that began as a TV promotion and has since become a brand name product which can be found on every major retail shelf in the United States.
Today Jelmar is a vibrant and growing manufacturing company with a two broad household cleaning product lines in the CLR® and Tarn-X® family of products and now, in addition to the United States, successfully operates in Australia and Canada. Much of Jelmar’s current success can be attributed to the quality of the products and to the insights of Manny’s granddaughter, Alison Gutterman, the current president of Jelmar.
Alison has increased the company’s consumer research spending to determine what changes and additions to the Jelmar product line would be well received by consumers. Through partnerships with the EPA and other strategic alliances, Jelmar has leveraged the consumer research into innovative environmentally friendly reformulations of existing products and into new products for their product line. These new and reformulated products have been well received by consumers allowing Jelmar to continue to grow now and into the foreseeable future.
